Band Time Application Information

We are accepting applications for children who will be 3 years old on 1st September 2023 (eligible for Nursery) up until Year 4 (8/9 years old).

Band Time offers children aged from 3 to 11 the opportunity to benefit from a range of musical activities and take up a wind or brass instrument from Year 4 provided through access to the excellent musical tuition offered by Trinity Laban, a leading conservatoire of music and dance. Band Time is also a fantastic way to meet new friends and have fun while learning a new instrument!

Students begin the programme aged 3 (nursery aged children) with Trinity Teenies. They receive a 45-minute weekly general musicianship session. After 2 years of Teenies students move into our Foundation programme for one year where they further develop their musicianship skills and a greater understanding of musical notation and theory.

As students move up through the programme and reach Year 2 in school, they begin group lessons on recorder to allow them to experience how to use their breath to make a sound on an instrument and further develop their notation and ensemble skills, as well as continuing with a musicianship class.

After two years of recorder and musicianship, when children enter school Year 4, they choose an additional wind or brass instrument to learn and their programme includes 5 weekly sessions - group wind/brass lessons, choir, musicianship, band and recorder ensemble.

We offer lessons on a range of instruments including oboe, clarinet, mini bassoon, trumpet, pBone (the pre-curser to the adult sized trombone), flute and French horn and we work with parents to advise on the most appropriate choice of instrument for the child.

If your child is in Years 5 or 6 and already playing one of the wind or brass instruments we teach (listed above) we may have space on the programme but we will need to assess this on a case by case basis. Please email: bandtime@trinitylaban.ac.uk

Spaces for September 2023 will be confirmed during summer term 2023.
